The 2024 Emmy Awards celebrated a night of triumphs and surprises as "Shōgun" and "Hacks" emerged as the big winners. Held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and broadcast live on ABC, the ceremony, hosted by Dan and Eugene Levy, honored the best in television from the past year.
"Shōgun" Makes History
HBO’s "Shōgun" dominated the evening with a record-breaking 25 nominations, the highest ever for a single show. The epic drama clinched major awards, including Best Drama Series. Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai were recognized as Best Actor and Best Actress in a Drama Series, respectively. With 18 total Emmys, including those from the Creative Arts categories, "Shōgun" set a new record for the most awards won in a single season.
"Hacks" Tops Comedy Categories
In the comedy category, HBO's "Hacks" triumphed over strong competitors to win Best Comedy Series. The show was celebrated for its sharp writing and standout performances. In a competitive field, "The Bear," which led with a record 23 nominations, secured awards for Best Lead Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress, but fell short of the top comedy prize.
